While I sincerely thank those members who showed up at the meeting I must say that I was disappointed once again that so few, one quarter of the membership, show sufficient interest in the running of the club to turn up and make their opinions known. I was even more disappointed that those who did turn out when given the chance had no interest in taking on the role of managing the club. Some people while not willing to hold a permanent post have volunteered as assistants at various venues and I thank them for that and have included them in this report. I must thank Scott and Ted for stepping up to the plate to assist me as Club Captains on two of the courses and also Christian who with some coaxing took over the treasurers role and I must say that you people who are unwilling to do the job over the coming twelve months should be less critical of those who are willing to do the job for you. A bit more patience and understanding is required by all and also some punctuality and consideration for the organisers and the players alike. Otherwise the very few volunteers we currently have may not step forward next time and there will be no alternative but for the club to fold. Something to consider over the next twelve months. Don't be surprised if your future complaints are met by a similar silence to that experienced when we called for volunteers to fill the permanent positions.
Christian has forwarded me the minutes of the meeting compiled initially by Les until he stepped down and completed by Christian and proof read and posted by yours truely Garry:
AGM Chiang Mai Social Golfers at the No. 1 Pub Monday 2. February 2009
The meeting was opened at 1825 hours by Club Captain Garry Walker.
Members present were (in no particular order): Gerry Brimacombe, Yung Beece, Haydn Patterson, Garry Walker, Gordon Bell, Roger Mack, Kieran Savage, Gary Lyon, David Hubb, Guy Merrett, Barry Quirk, Philip Brown, Gordon Langtry, Ted Taylor, Scott Lumsden, Graham Best, Dan Severson, Malcolm Tetley, Ron Tyre, Christian Friis, Dan Evans, Archie Lee, Peter Lucassen, Les Harvey, Dao Viraya and David Murphy. Kim Gillies had sent his apologies for not being able to attend.
· Garry W. started by proposing that Les Harvey be granted free lifetime membership in recognition of his long service to the club, which was approved by acclamation.
· Les Harvey read the minutes from the last year’s AGM 21/01/08 – Accepted.
· Les then went through and commented the financial statement for 2008 showing end of year funds on hand of Bht. 9,795, which were readily approved.
· Next point of the agenda was election of club officers. Garry Walker wished to step down after several years of service as did Les Harvey. After some discussion about the structure of the club leadership, the following was resolved: The club committee will consist of 1 Secretary/Treasurer and 3 captains, each responsible for his venue, Lanna, Mae Joe and Gold Mountain. The following were elected:
· Lanna Captain – Garry Walker
· Mae Joe Captain – Scott Lumsden
· Gold Mountain Captain – Ted Taylor
· Secretary/Treasurer – Christian Friis
· The AGM then awarded Garry Walker free lifetime membership as a token of thanks for his great work for the club.
· General Business:
· Discussion about problems with how many golfers show up at tee-time and how to handle that. It was resolved that a few additional spare slots be booked at each venue but in the main each captain runs his venue as he sees fit.
· Handicap system stands as is today.
· Membership fee stands at Bht. 600 for new members and Bht. 150 for renewal.
· The women play of the same tees as the males in all competitions.
. All members comply to a code of conduct expected by golfers around the world. Otherwise warnings will be given by the club captain and if necessary a period of suspension. If a member continually fails to comply total suspension from the club.
The official part of the meeting was closed at 1920 hours.
Tonight’s lucky draw winner was Kieran Savage who walked away with a bottle of Jim Beam which was donated by the Issan Club to be distributed as a prize and it was decided that it would be a reward for some lucky individual who attended the meeting.
